About Rainbow Glen

Rainbow Glen

Sewer of things, lover of life...

The above headline is inspired by what Freddie Mercury has on his headstone - "Singer of songs lover of life" which I loved for its simplicity, it pretty much sums me up too.

I've done a lot of jobs over the years, but who I am now is this (see headline). I'm Caroline, a mum of 2 great kids, wife to a supportive hubby living in a little hamlet 10 miles west of Perth, my hometown in Scotland.

My passion for sewing started at 9 years old with an embroidery project at school nurtured by my granny and my mum - I used to embroider drawings of my mums ornaments I'd had done on old dust sheets.

After becoming a mum, I dusted off the sewing machine to make bunting for my son's room and rekindled my love for sewing for pleasure. That was in 2013. 8 years on and my skills have grown, I now include hand embroidery in my product range and also machine embroidery which I'm fascinated by.

I love making with Harris Tweed when I can to make beautiful bags, purses and baskets. I enjoy collecting beautiful cottons to one day make into a stunning lampshade (and my stash is sizeable!)

I've graduated from the kitchen table where I began to my own workroom which is currently housed in our conservatory, where I can enjoy views over my garden and over the Almond Glen.

I went full time with my business in 2017, after the loss of my mum. I realised life is too short not to do what you really want to do and I wanted to make a living making and being around for my kids as much as possible.

The last 2 years have been rocky with Brexit and COVID, but its made me up my game, learning new skills and branching out into doing more markets again.

I rejoined Folksy after a long absence now I've learned so much more about the platform and SEO.

And so my story continues... I hope to still be making and selling in 10 years from now. Wonder what I'll be making then?
