I design and make limited edition, fun chunky fabric bead necklaces from recycled fabric

Hi!

I often work as surface pattern designer and exhibit my designs at trade shows all over the world. I sometimes exhibit using fabric swatches made out of 100% natural silk cotton printed in Glasgow. After these swatches have travelled to destinations like New York and Paris they end up archived in a plan chest. I wanted a way to give them a second life and do love a chunky necklace, so I developed these fun designs.

In the second phase of their lives they go through a transformation, upcycled from a pretty butterfly to a funky caterpillar (yes I know that’s back to front, but I like to be different). They are hand cut and sewn in the Chilterns and filled with wooden beads. The transformation takes an hour and a half and they re-emerge as a limited edition, fabric covered, necklace. There are only two of each design, so are very unique!

I take my inspiration for the pattern designs from the world around me, I'm always inspired by nature, my travels and a keen interest in art and design. I'm always photographing or sketching interesting textures, colours and potential motifs to use later. I often design using a combination of hand drawn and digital elements.
