Contemporary handcrafted ceramics with pattern and colour

My ceramics are crafted from thin slabs of clay, imprinted with my linocut designs. Patterns are decorative in their own right but also have their own story and personal connection. All pieces are created with care and attention to detail and because everything is made and glazed by hand, each item is unique.

The world is full of light and shade and I really enjoy creating contrasts in my own work. Contrasts of texture, colour and shape. Sharp lines and sweeping curves. Designs that are refined and elegant but are also strong and impactful.

I have been a maker for as long I can remember and have always found immense satisfaction in the design and creation process. My career initially took me in a different direction but, after finding my connection with clay, I made the decision to say goodbye to the desk job and began life as a self-employed artist. I now work from the studio at the end of my Cambridgeshire garden and I have never regretted the decision, not even for a moment.

Random fact - I also trained as a carpenter before deciding that clay was the medium for me. Or, perhaps it's not so random - it has been noted (more than once) that there is a connection in the use of tools and construction techniques. The methods of carefully forming, joining and building are definitely an important part of how my designs are created.
