Tweed and Tartan reflect the landscape and people of Scotland.
My Granma taught me to sew when I was about 8 years old and I've been sewing ever since, but it was only when my children were born that I discovered and fell in love with patchwork.
My children are all grown up now, but what started as a hobby soon turned into a business. Since setting up Puffinpatchworks in Edinburgh in 2010 the business has gone from strength to strength. From new design ideas to teaching, I will embrace any change that engages people with fabric and patchwork.
I first started using Border Tweed in my quilts and cushions a few years ago after a customer was looking for a good home for a stash of tweed she had found in her Granny's attic. In exchange for this tweed treasure, I made a 7' square quilt that keeps them warm in winter and adorns the wall in summer.
The stash is nearly gone, but I make trips to The Borders to various mills to source scraps. I also use off-cuts of tartan from kilt makers in Edinburgh. All this and using denim from Charity Shops is in keeping with the ethos of the business to recycle and reuse as much fabric as possible
I work with what I have, creating designs from the Scottish landscape and wildlife.
I also do commissions for cushions and quilts made from clothes customers wanted to keep to brand new fabric quilts for a special occasion or room. If you are thinking of a project or a special present, why not get on touch.
