About Pink Jelly Crafts

Pink Jelly Crafts

A housewife, mother of two and devoted family member with a BIG artistic imagination

Hi, My name is Ann-Marie Thomas. I chose the name Pink Jelly Crafts because in our household we all have nicknames and my husband calls our sons Pinks and Jells, hence the name derived from them.

I've always enjoyed Art and Crafts and Modern Languages. I left school with a GCSE grade A in Art and Design. I studied Business and modern languages at college as well and enjoyed travelling abroad during holidays, staying with locals and experiencing their culture.

I am a housewife, mother of two and spent 20+ years of my life working in Administration whilst supporting my husband in the Royal Air Force. It was our posting in Cyprus where I attended workshops for Mosaics and glass cutting, cake decorating, and sewing. My imagination and love of Art was rekindled again and I have never stopped creating since.

I have been mosaicing since 2008. With a thirst for knowledge and learning new skills; the last few years I attended various day workshops such as stained glass, felting and patchwork.
Many of my skills are self taught through books, video and experimentation, I am a fast learner. I have so many imaginative ideas in my head and I am constantly evolving and learning in the process.

In my mosaics projects I use a mixture of materials; stained glass, millefiori, ceramic, shards of crockery, beads, buttons, tiles (iridescent, vitreous, glazed, porcelain, glitter, dichroic, mirror and fused to name just a few).
Due to the nature of the glass material they have to be handled with care.
The glass and tiles are individually hand cut to shape.

Textile Art - I enjoy wet and dry felting and love adding mixed media by incorporating beads, buttons, embroidery and sequins into the art work.
I recently bought a kiln to make fused glass and ceramic projects but also to personalise my projects. I am self taught in fused glass which is an ongoing learning curve.

I like to up-cycle materials and items for some projects. I also use recycle packaging where possible. This is my way of helping our environment.

Postage is 1st class signed by Royal Mail.

My inspiration comes from my childhood memories, life experiences, travels and hobbies. I love gardening and wildlife. I have a fairly big garden with a vegetable patch, which I grow organic vegetables every year. I grow many plants from seed.
I like cooking from fresh foods and enjoy harvesting from my vegetable patch.

My husband with the assistance of my sons manage two beehives in our garden. The Honeybees are thriving and do wonders for the garden and our environment. I like the thought that we are helping endangered bees. We also have bumble bees that nest every year in our garden. Last year they built a nest in our compost bin. Sometimes it's the birdhouse. I made a few rockeries in our garden with bee friendly plants, which attract Solitary bees.

I like to encourage wildlife in our garden, we have two hedgehog houses and a few bird boxes scattered amongst the trees.
We live in the sticks of the countryside and there are herds of Deer and Muntjac, which graze on neighbouring fields.
Sometimes I get a glimpse of a barn owl in flight during the evenings.
We have a walnut tree and a couple of cob shrubs, which the local squirrels are attracted too. I often witness them burying the nuts in the ground and scarpering off before our cats see them.
I love nature and the colours that surround us.

I have two cats which are full of character and love their hugs. We used to have a German Shepherd dog called Milo, which got along well with the cats as they would greet each other. He was one in a million!
We have four Bantam hens which all have names Beatrix, Ginger, Pearl and Oprah, quite the characters too...Ginger is the boss.

I live in Suffolk. We have the most spectacular sunsets. Glorious stunning colours sprawling across the sky, a wealth of nature reserves and beautiful coastal villages with scenic beaches.

Every project I do is a piece of me, of my imagination, my time, my learning curve and a chapter in my Arts and Crafts journey.
I hope you enjoy and appreciate my artwork as much as I take pleasure in creating it.

Best wishes,

Ann-Marie Thomas
