Here are some things just listed by other crafters and sellers on Folksy.
My love of woodworking goes back to my Grandad’s shed when I was about 4 years old. It was tiny (even to a child), but he created some wonderful things – some of which I still have today.
He passed those skills on to his sons, and my father passed them on to me.
Most of my designs are simple and focus on allowing the wood to be the star. The initial cutting and forming is usually done by machine though I do enjoy using old-style hand tools where appropriate, just like my Grandad.
And, coming bang up to date, I’ve recently bought a laser cutter and I'm experimenting with that to see what other dimensions it can bring to my work. At the moment I think it will allow me to do some really interesting things, but I keep asking myself “is this really woodwork?”!
All my products are finished by hand. Luckily, I find sanding and waxing therapeutic because sometimes this can be the longest part of creating something!
Reclaimed wood and scraps are used whenever possible, and most of my products are finished in natural waxes and oils.
My inspiration comes from lots of different places. Sometimes the piece of wood determines the product, other times it’s photos or drawings I’ve seen and think I’d like to create my own version.
At the moment I’m going through a bit of a ‘Desk Art’ phase, but I can already sense my thoughts moving into other areas.
My wife and I recently moved back to Hampshire with our cat, Rosie, and Cockerpoo, Teddy. The big plan for 2024 (apart from joining Folksy) is to build our own house and I hope to incorporate some of my woodworking skills into our new home.
