I have always had a love of 'making things' starting with balsawood and plaster of paris as a child, progressing to oil and gas facilities around the globe.
My love of wood stems from the infinite variety of colours and grain patterns alongside mastering the skills and techniques neccessary to make & finish items to display their inherent natural beauty.Being predominately self taught, my passion for crafting quality items is only matched by overcoming the creative challenges in developing new, unique ideas which are both attractive and functional.
Ceramics is a relatively new skill set featuring thrown stoneware and terra cottta products largely influenced by form, colour and geometric design.
After a globe trotting career and a very skewed work / life balance allowed little opportunity for creative pursuits. I am now firmly grounded in Old Malden, Surrey, my lifestyle is far more conducive to embracing my creative interests.
Wher did the name Jopalian (pronounced: Jo-pal-i-an) come from? Compiled from first letters of the family christen names and was also the kennel club name of our much loved Labrador.
