Hi I’m Jill and I live in Lincolnshire with my family and pets. I have a lifelong love of making art, completing a both a Diploma and an honours degree in art and design in the 1980’s.
I have worked in an acute mental health setting for the last 26 years. Using my creative skills on a daily basis, I understand the importance of art as both a spiritual and creative means of connecting with our environment.
In 2004 I completed a felt-making course run by a local community artist to use as a therapeutic activity with some of my clients. The high quality merino wool and silks used in the felt-making process are so soft, and the range of colours, together with warm water make it an incredibly restorative, sensory and fun experience. I fell in love with felt making and continue to explore and improve my skills, making felt ‘paintings’.
Concerned by environmental troubles, I wanted to try to make a difference by representing wildlife at risk. This led to the creation of some felt paintings which attempts to give our endangered animals a voice.
All my felted designs are supplied mounted on to standard sized, quality mount board, ready for you to display in a frame.
At the beginning of the Covid lockdown, I was bought a set of blank nesting dolls and began to create groups of animals and birds following natural themes inspired by the Lincolnshire countryside. Using high quality acrylic paints I try to capture all the detail and character of our native wildlife.
The wooden dolls are sourced from small co-operative workshops, often made by women, keeping local skills and traditions alive. The wood used is from sustainable sources.
My artistic pursuits continue to evolve and I also works in mixed media, collage and watercolour.
Thank you for your interest and keep watching this space!
