About Farm Yarn UK

Farm Yarn UK

I am a farmers wife, a weaver & dyer, using both acid dyes & natural dyes (foraged from the banks of the Eden River) to dye our organic romney yarn.

We are very fortunate to work on our organic family farm in the beautiful Eden Valley which skirts the Lake District National Park to the west, the Yorkshire Dales to the South, Northumbria to the East, and Scotland is on our Northern boarder.
As well as our Montbeliarde dairy herd we raise a small flock of Romney Sheep using traditional and sustainable farming methods to help manage our organic farming landscape. We have the highest welfare standards for our flock who enjoy roaming freely through our lowland pastures. We clip our sheep twice a year as the Romney have a fast-growing fleece, well known for their high quality, long crimped staple producing a fine and lustrous fleece.
The lambswool is very soft, and we send this to be washed, carded and spun in Yorkshire providing us with soft versatile fibres, suitable for knit, weave, crochet, felt, dying & fibre art. Inspired by the colours found in the Eden Valley we have some dyed Romney Yarn. We use both natural & acid dyes and find our naturally white yarn is excellent at absorbing the colours. You could buy raw fleece, or yarn & have fun at home with dyeing.
Ready for you to knit, weave or crochet - our spun organic lambswool is available as singles, 4ply, Aran wt. or perhaps you would like some scoured & carded slivers to spin & dye for that special project.
Perfect gifts for spinning, weaving, dying, felting, knitting or other fibre crafts.
The photo above shows me harvesting weld from our riverside meadow by the Eden. We leave areas to grow wild flowers for our honey bees to forage, as well as supporting many other insects, birds and mammals. We also plant woodland to further support and enhance the natural environment.
