"I like the fact Folksy is for UK crafters. The shop interface is easy to use for both customers and sellers alike and provides a secure platform through which to process sales, obtain clear stats and feedback. I like the monthly tags and promos on the home page and this quite often inspires me to employ similar themes when creating posts on my socials. Ultimately I believe Folksy offers a positive experience for all users and showcases artists and crafters in a professional yet fun light."

"I love that I do not need my own website. It is a better option for me than Craft Fairs as I only pay commission on what I sell. It is for UK sellers only. I feel supported by the Folksy community and I like knowing that Folksy is run by real people should I have a problem."

Questions & Answers

Still Wondering How To Sell Art Online?

You can sell original artwork you’ve created, including paintings, illustrations, mixed media, printmaking (like screen prints or lino prints), sculpture, papercut art, photography and limited-edition prints. Everything must be designed or made by you in the UK.

No. Folksy is open to all UK-based artists and makers, whether you’re just starting out or already running an established creative business. There’s no approval process or gatekeeping - if you make it, you can sell it.

You set up your own online shop, list your artwork, add photos and descriptions, and set your prices. When a customer buys your work, you receive the order, payment and post it directly to them.

It’s free to join. You pay a small listing fee per item (or none with a Plus account) and a low commission fee when you make a sale. There are no hidden costs or long-term fixed contracts. You can see the full cost breakdown here.

Your work is listed in a specialist craft marketplace where buyers are actively searching for handmade and original art. You can also be discovered through search, category browsing, and Folksy promotions and features. We also provide marketing advice and guides to support you in sharing your creations with potential buyers.

No - your Folksy shop acts as your own online storefront. It’s customisable and gives you a simple way to start selling without building or maintaining your own website.

Yes, you can sell reproduction prints of your original pieces, as well as other products that feature prints of your own original artwork (e.g. greeting cards, mugs and bags).

Payments go directly to your PayPal account once an order is placed, so you’re in control of your income from day one.

Yes, you can absolutely list custom items (such as pet portraits, house portraits etc). We recommend listing the item with a set price, using examples of work you've already done. You can then use the variations/customisation options to confirm some of the details (with additional prices if needed). The seller will then need to send any final details (such as photos) to the seller by email after they've placed their order. This is a simple process, you'll just need to explain it in the product description so buyers have confidence in the steps they need to take. If you search 'personalised' on Folksy you'll see examples of how other sellers do this.

For general commissions, we recommend using the shop announcement/about section to make it clear you're happy to take commissions and encourage potential buyers to use the 'Contact' button to reach out to you directly. Once you know enough details to set a price, you can then create a listing on Folksy (with reserved for [x] as the product title) and send the link to the buyer so they can make the payment.
