Set of Four Geometric Origami Christmas Cards

Each card in this set of four features a star or flower pattern which is hand-folded from two squares of paper in contrasting colours, with a small gold disc at the centre. The design for the red and green one was originally based on a poinsettia, before I added cards in other colours (green and blue; green and purple and, most strikingly, green and pink). The symmetry of the design creates an elegant geometrical pattern, and the 8 'petals' are folded up at the edges, giving a three-dimensional aspect. The two squares are interleaved by folding them separately, dividing one into four and inserting it into the gaps between the petals of the first. I was inspired to do this by a traditional origami model known as the Chinese box. I later discovered that this design is also a traditional one, known as the 'four rhombi'. Each card is blank inside for your own message. I first created them with Christmas in mind, but they can be used for many celebrations, including Diwali, anniversaries, birthdays, as thank you cards and on other occasions. Before posting, it is advisable to flatten each petal to prevent it from being crushed in the envelope. A small square of card is included with each envelope - this not only protects the greetings card during transit, it contains instructions for the recipient on how to pinch each petal gently to make the card three-dimensional again. The cards are approximately 10 cm square. Each set of four cards is posted within three days via Royal Mail tracked 48 delivery. Delivery is free.
