Pre-Loved Plate Found by Chance Team Valley, Gatesheads Tyne & Wear September 2026 Handcrafted into Decoration October 2026 Always on the look out for new ideas I came across this lovely but damaged Alfred Meakin plate with striking burgundy rim. Instantly knew I wanted to use the rim to create a flower, this left the rest of the plate. I gently clipped around the centre pattern, as I followed the flowers a teardrop shape started to form. Chanced drilling a hole which thankfully didn't crack the ceramic, I then continued to hand sand around the edges. My original intention was to keep the uneven edge around the design but managed to sand the edges so much that it felt more natural to finish it smooth. Teardrop shape not exact, created by constantly sanding and buffing with a cloth made from recycled materials, producing a teardrop like shape with one side ever so slightly off. Front & back crackle glaze through age, with some scratching. The idea is to create something new from old and use recycled materials to produce individual, distinctive gifts. The finished piece isn't meant to be perfect but instead retain part of the original character, including marks and scratches, all part of the history of the materials used. Decoration measures approximately 63mm x 53mm (widest) x 4mm. Hanging on recycled black ribbon and includes recycled twine & cord as alternative hanging choice. Delivered in gift box made from FSC®-certified cardboard and water-based glue. Presented on Jewellery box insert made from tall oil, a by-product of paper production. Complete with short bio and FSC®-certified gift bag. All materials used are from sustainable sources and can be recycled.
