About this item
Falstaff was originally modelled on Sir John Oldcastle but he is in some ways a self-mocking portrait of Shakespeare himself: 'fall staff' 'shake spear'. By a strange twist of fate, meeting at the Boar's Head in Eastcheap, Falstaff becomes a drinking mate of the Prince of Wales, young Hal - the future Henry V. The scene shows Falstaff pretending to be the King while Hal pretends to be his servant. 10 x 10cm wood and cork coaster
