The hare has always been a magical field animal. Old England called it the witch's familiar, the shape a woman took to slip past a locked door, the creature that sits up on its hind legs at dusk to gaze at the moon as though it remembers being something else. This piece keeps that old, uncanny thread but follows it down into something small and tender: a leveret, newly hidden in its form, washing its face and waiting. Waiting is the leveret's whole occupation. Her mother may be gone for hours but she will not move or give herself away. A symbol of patience and trust.
