Full description
Art print in pen and pencil. A3.
The colours I tend to work are earthy natural colours. I was however inspired to create this piece immediately after being part of a project at the Bethlem gallery looking at work inspired by Frantz Fanon. Having worked with mainly black and white for that piece to explore the hidden faces of Africans under colonial gaze, I felt a need to bring some vibrancy into my next piece. Not just vibrancy but to celebrate the African face in all its splendour, the colour and shades, the stories written all over it.
I love to celebrate woman in my work and saw this young woman, the world in all its mystery, the excitement, the uncertainty before her and created this work.
My creations are not large but even in it's size, this piece is larger than life and would make a lovely feature for she stands out in most settings.
