About this item
These copper ginkgo leaf pendants are hammered by hand from sheet copper, and strung on sustainable hemp cord. Ginkgo Leaves traditionally symbolise hope, longevity and perseverance, due to the tree's long lifespan and ability to stand strong during times of hardship while surrounding flora can't. This symbolism has taken on new depth with the fossil record showing that the lineage of the Ginkgo reaches back at least 200 million years, earning it the title of a "living fossil". The inspiration to make these came when I was first returning to metalworking after a long recovery from chronic illness. I was walking through a park and stumbled across the newly fallen Ginkgo leaves, and it took me back to when I was first learning metalworking, with a Ginkgo tree right outside my window. I loved the beautiful leaves and in those early days of my craft tried to recreate them. They never quite came out right, but seeing them again brought me full circle to that initial moment of inspiration - now with the practice and experience to do it well. For me these leaves remind me of my own journey of hardship and resilience, and to be hopeful for a better future.
