Lightweight drop earrings, each featuring a 6x8mm natural Citrine nugget, 11x5mm Amber oval and 3mm faceted Citrine bead, all separated with 1.8mm gold vermeil beads. The beads are threaded on to gold vermeil wire and hung from gold vermeil 18mm hoops. Gold vermeil is sterling silver that has been plated with 18k gold. Amber is the name for preserved resin from trees over 30 million years old. It comes in various shades of yellow, orange and brown, is translucent, and frequently contains equally ancient inclusions. It has been used in jewellery for thousands of years, but is a relatively soft substance and should be treated with care to avoid scratches. Citrine is one of the birthstones for November and Scorpio. Citrine is a transparent pale-yellow-to-orange-brown variety of Quartz. The Citrine nuggets I have used here are natural Citrine, which tends to have a pale lemon hue - deeper yellow-to-orange Citrine is usually heat-treated Amethyst. Citrine symbolises light-heartedness, joy and happiness.
