Full description

40x50 (aprox) original painting. Frame included. Mixed media.

This painting feels deeply symbolic and emotionally charged, balancing whimsy with heaviness.

At the centre stands a ballerina-like figure in a vivid pink dress, mid-motion as if dancing or reaching toward freedom. Her bright red hair immediately draws the eye, contrasting strongly against the dark blue night sky behind her. The dress is full of movement - flowing outward like a flower or burst of energy - giving the figure life and spirit.

Behind her is a glowing arch or doorway outlined in gold, almost like a portal, halo, or passage into another world. The light around it creates a magical atmosphere, suggesting hope, escape, imagination, or transformation.

But attached to the dancer's ankle is a heavy black ball and chain. This changes the emotional tone completely. Despite her graceful pose and desire to move forward, she is physically tethered to something dark and weighty. It could symbolize trauma, pain, limitation, anxiety, past experiences, or emotional burdens that follow a person even while they try to grow or dream.

The barren tree on the right side adds loneliness and stillness to the landscape. The empty ground and dark sky make the glowing figure stand out even more - almost as if she is carrying her own light in a bleak environment.

What makes the piece powerful is the contrast:

freedom vs restriction

light vs darkness

innocence vs suffering

Fantasy vs reality

The painting has a surreal, storybook quality, but underneath it feels deeply personal and reflective. It invites the viewer to interpret their own meaning while emotionally understanding the struggle between wanting to soar and being held back.
