Hello and a very warm welcome to my shop! I am so happy to introduce a piece that is very close to my heart, titled "African Maid."
As a Sierra Leonean-British artist, my creative work acts as a visual bridge between my two cultural worlds. With this striking portrait, I wanted to explore modern, soulful identity by blending the clean, minimalist lines of contemporary Western design with the rich artistic rhythms and traditional storytelling shapes of West Africa.
"African Maid" captures a moment of quiet, graceful presence. I love working with grounding, natural colors because they bring an immediate sense of organic warmth into a room. For this piece, I chose a beautifully rich, earthy brown skin tone, balanced by a soft flowing cream headscarf with fine, delicate linework. The portrait is elevated by bold, contemporary geometric accents of deep teal and cream stripes along the neckline and headband-subtly echoing traditional West African textile patterns.
Every single line, shade, and detail on this print has been meticulously crafted by hand using professional fine-ink technical pens and artist-grade colored pencils. Because this is a print of genuine physical original artwork-not a digital creation -you can see and feel the authentic texture of the medium catching the light on the page.
