Pendant Created September 2025 From Damaged Plate Penrith Cumbria October 2021 I visited Penrith in October 2021, a lovely market town in Cumbria where I found some interesting pieces of ceramic in a shop full of preloved items, including boxes of crockery destined to be thrown away. This necklace is made from a broken plate, striking deep rich blue set on white background. The glaze is slightly scratched and full of character. I gently clipped the ceramic, hand sanded and polished the piece to create a small round pendant. The idea is to create something new from old and use recycled materials to produce unique jewellery. The finished piece isn't meant to be perfect but instead retain part of the original character, including marks and scratches, all part of the history of the ceramic. Hanging on 18 inch recycled sterling silver chain. Set in 13 mm recycled silver bezel tray. Both polished and hallmarked 925. Delivered in gift box made from FSC®-certified cardboard and water-based glue. Presented on Jewellery box insert made from tall oil, a by-product of paper production. Complete with short bio and FSC®-certified gift bag. All materials used are from sustainable sources and can be recycled.

All ceramic personally collected from river banks, charity shops, recycle centres, beaches, wherever dropped, dumped or donated ceramics are found, cleaned and shaped into new stories. Each item comes with a short bio. Every piece is individual, nothing replicated, however, due to repetitive patterns in ceramics there will be some similarity but only through the ceramic material not in the final piece. Ceramic will show marks, scratches and imperfections, all part of its history and journey.

I love collecting ceramic discarded, lost, forgotten, damaged or just not wanted any more. Favourite places are rivers and beaches, but also find great things at recycling centres and charity shops. I’m lucky to live near the River Tees, Co Durham and often walk the banks picking up broken glass, pottery anything that can be cleaned and re-worked and crafted into something new. Bits and bobs found by chance waiting to find new homes.
