I first made ball toys for cats from yarn that I could buy in a shop, but realised that I could do it in a much more eco friendly way. I found a shop that sold their waste fibres from their industrial machines, all the fibres are in good condition, therefore suitable for spinning. Having taught myself to spin during my degree I thought this would be a great way to get to use this skill again.
This set of balls was my first trial of this idea, so they are not perfect, but having learnt a lot from doing these I can now create more using this concept, and they are more aesthetically pleasing.

Full description
A selection of handmade crochet balls - Whole group for a reduced price as these were a trial before I decided to continue to make the balls using this method.
To make these balls I bought a bag of waste fibres (all good quality natural fibres but could be anything from alpaca or angora to sheep wool) from a shop, and then hand spun and hand plied into yarn. I then crocheted the yarn into balls and stuffed with my waste yarn from the weaving I do, and then to finish I needle felted the balls to make sure all the fibres were held in place.
That being said, because of the nature of hand spun yarn, the balls are not perfectly round as you can see in the photos, but they roll just as well, I checked!
Cat nip free
2 - 3.5 inches in diameter
Please note these are not appropriate for dogs that chew their toys.
