About this item
Beautiful early written dance script, formed into a celtic design. A graphic representation of traditional Cornish Dance in gorgeous cornish national colours gold & black. I’ve cut two Lino blocks to create the image, which I hand-inked & hand-printed using my old Adana Press. I inked one in a rich Golden Yellow & the other in soft Seville black. I then typeset info on the back hand-set in old letterpress, hand inked & printed on my ancient Press - which I then fold to form a card. It's very hard to convey, in a photograph, the truly beautiful physical quality of the ink & it's colour on this gorgeously soft-to-touch paper :: 250gsm Specialist Artist Paper hand torn to size :: Card size is 85mm x 115 mm :: Recycled Envelope size is 95mm - 122mm :: Sealed into a compostable cornstarch clear-bag :: Inside is blank for you to write your own personal message :: Cards will be sent carefully packed in a repurposed board protected, recycled package Cards will vary slightly due to the nature of hand production making each card unique & original All items are ©Elly Rowbotham Please note the copyright of the print or image does not transfer with the sale

Black & Gold are Cornwall's national colours. 'Troyllya' is cornish for Spin or Swirl. In my adjacent musician-life, we play traditional cornish tunes (on acoustic instruments) for traditional cornish dance. Some is old tradition, some has been added to & developed, & some written in more recent times & is part of a living tradition. We're lucky to play for dancers who are an exhilarating example of 'step & set' in the cornish tradition. I designed this card with them in mind. It makes me think of the dancers spinning, as they cross & interweave at speed in circular forms, whilst sounding the 'scoots' on the soles of their shoes.
