Item details

I chopped a cherry tree down about ten years ago, for my father in law and he let me have the wood, some of which spalted ( a lovely pattern in the wood that is highly desired) whilst being seasoned in my garden. I re-sawed the cherry and stuck a coupe of strips of ebony (that were left over from a guitar I'd made) to make the box lid. the base is marine Plywood and it has all been finished with melamine laquer. It has some little, faults three dimples on the corner joints and some saw marks between the hinges, but I don't know if I should spend another day re finishing it.... so it is being offered as it is.... hope you like it

Full description

180 x 150 x 72mm tall with brass hinges and a brass catch. 450 grams weight, finished with a durable melamine lacquer. the main body is Imbuya wood, I think, from the luthier supplier near me, who buys from sustainable sources:- it has been re-sawn so the wood grain follows round each corner in a very attractive manner. I'm afraid it is not perfect to my eye, the lacquer has some dimples and it is obviously hand made:- not a factory perfect item. Is that good or bad? It is an attractive box, the grain is beautiful.
