Item details

At craft fairs, I've often been asked about a kit which allows you to create your own design of light-emitting diodes on foam board - this is it!

Perhaps you would like to make your initial into a design or perhaps you would like to make a random arrangement of l.e.d.s? It's up to you!

The picture shows a completed kit with a triangular arrangement of l.e.d.s and the foam board in a landscape orientation.

This item will be posted to you by Irby Electronics within 3 days of receiving payment.

Full description

A "design it yourself" construction kit containing an unpierced piece of foam board (approx. 10 cm x 16 cm), 10 light-emitting diodes, solder, link wire and a plastic template for you to mark the positions of the holes for the l.e.d.s.

Different versions of this kit are available. Please choose the colour of the ten l.e.d.s you would like in your kit. Choose either two l.e.d.s of each colour (blue, green, pink, red and yellow) or choose ten l.e.d.s of a single colour (either all blue, all green, all pink, all red or all yellow).

Please have a look at a working version of the "D.I.Y. L.E.D. Display" kit on the Irby Electronics YouTube channel.

This circuit requires 2 x AA batteries (not supplied). When this circuit was tested, a set of Duracell Plus Power batteries was still producing a good light output after 40 hours of continuous use.

The joints in the circuit can be made by simply twisting wires together and then crimping the connection with pliers. Soldering, however, makes a better electrical joint.

These tools are needed to make this kit (not supplied):

small pliers for bending component leads,

small wire cutters for cutting link wire,

slotted screwdriver for securing foam board to wooden base

sewing needle for piercing foam board

small, low power soldering iron, e.g. 15 watt, 18 watt or 25 watt (only if soldering is to be attempted).

Please read the safety warning in the About Irby Electronics section before ordering a kit.
