I was inspired by a photo I took last year of a field of purple clover, full of busy bees. (Although I didn't manage to get any bees in my photo!) After making the mosaic bee, I thought it looked quite "dark" (as in macabre), as if it was a Tim Burton bee! So I made my drawing have stripey grass to emphasise that beautiful but slightly sinister look.

Full description
The Dark Queen Bee
Mosaic bee on a background drawing of clover.
The bee is constructed from plywood, and tiled with glass mosaic tile -a lovely honey coloured copper fleck glass in the body and iridescent black for the wings. The depth of the bee is approximately 16mm and fixed securely onto the drawing.
The background is drawn onto card using pens and pencils.
Framed in a black box frame with plexi-glass. (Photo without the glass to eliminate reflection)
The size is approx 22.5 cm x 22.5 cm, depth approx 4.5 cm.
