Full description

"Once upon a time, in a Russian village, there lived a woman called Babushka. She always seemed to be busy with sweeping, polishing, cooking, dusting, gardening... so busy that she began to lose sight of all the beautiful things around her. So busy, she didn't look up to see the brightest new star that had appeared in the night sky..."

The Babushka tale is a very old story. So old that many Russian children no longer know it at all. It is a cautionary tale about a woman too busy to notice anything around her... so busy in fact, she missed the arrival of baby Jesus.

Whether you have a deep faith or whether you just enjoy Christmas celebrations for their fun and frivolity - the Christmas Cottage is a pretty decoration to brighten your home.

Babushka stands in the doorway - holding something familiar with her busy life, and there is the star shining above her.

I have embroidered the star in yellow and green.

Each Babushka differs - i will pick one for you. She might be holding apples or a saucepan, a small bird or a stove pot...

There is a heart at the corner of the door to symbolise love and the fact that Babushka never gave up looking for Jesus.

I love cooking and baking and being at home: http://thebigstoveyear.blogspot.com but trust me, i know when to stop - i'm no Babushka!!
