The Autumn Patchwork bear is a skinny fellow, 33cm tall from head to foot. He is made from a variety of fabrics, machine stitched together into a patchwork prior to cutting. To complete the look he has a necktie made from a golden ribbon. His paws are cut from felt. His arms and legs are button jointed, his head is jointed with a plastic safety joint, and he has plastic eyes and a black embroidered nose. He is stuffed with polyester toy filling. As he is button jointed he is for decorative purposes only.
For me, one of the many joys of sharing my son’s childhood, has been costume making, and at no time of year have I had more fun than Halloween. Nowadays, he likes to be scary, but in the early years, when I had more of a say in what I produced, I refused to do scary and sought out harvest and Halloween materials that I could run up dungarees and little suits from without a long tooth or a zombie in sight! Inevitably there were off cuts. Most became an autumn quilt for the garden swing seat as the days got colder, but the smaller pieces that were left over, mixed with a few other scraps, are here in this little autumn patchwork bear.
