Last year when I was designing my beach collection I tried several times to knit a spiral shell. Each time I was stumped, and in the end put the project aside. But it has been niggling at me, and so I decided to give it another attempt.

Some spiral shells are flat, but I wanted to knit one that was truly cone shaped. I am really pleased with the final result. The knitting is not hard, and is on two double-pointed needles, but by using short rows, the work naturally forms a spiral.

Full description

How would you like to make a little bit of the seaside?

This realistic spiral shell is knitted flat, in two pieces, with 2 double-pointed needles and short rows. The shaping makes the knitting fall into a natural spiral.

Use any 4ply sock wool. It is a great way to use up any oddments that you have left over. My new hobby is looking for realistic shell shades.

There is one long seam. And then sewing it into a spiral is done with tiny stitches. The pattern has detailed photographs and instructions explaining how to do this.

The pattern will be sent as a PDF to your email address within 24 hours.
