About this item
Made from a piece of poplar, which was rescued from a new housing clearance site! Although not totally round in shape, when I got down to the size I wanted I found that the piece still had an unturned flat side which I feel adds to the desired end result! Once happy with the shape I used a solution of wire wool soaked in vinegar which stained the wood a greyish colour, then scorched it with a blow torch before finishing off with a dark wax. The glass mosaic tiles were added by roughly carving out the square holes for them, into which they were glued into place.I didn't want the piece to have a perfect look to it I required an old, ancient feel to the piece. Standing 145mm x 125mm (5 1/2ins high x 5ins wide) this vase is NOT waterproof and is only suitable for dried flowers etc, although this piece will attract attention with or without the use of such! Signed and dated using English and Runic lettering
