Drypoint is a form of printmaking where the image is made by drawing on a metal plate (usually copper) with a sharp needle-like tool. Drypoint is an intaglio technique – meaning the print is produced by incising into the printing plate and the areas that are removed will hold the ink. Intaglio prints are the reverse of relief prints, where the areas that remain and protrude are inked. Other intaglio techniques include etching, engraving and mezzotint.
