As I’ve navigated the ups and downs of my mental health, candles became my go-to method to centre myself. They can turn any room into my own comforting space, so they became essential when I moved from New York to New Jersey to London. If I want to feel energised after dragging myself out of bed in the morning, or focus while working from home, or relax after a long stressful day, I choose different scents depending on how I want to feel. This is how I got the idea for Uhuru Candles - I wanted to create candles that invigorate different senses based on your mood.
I blend all of the signature Uhuru Candles scents myself at home in London. My goal is to play with unique fragrances and scent combinations that you don’t typically find in candles, all while focusing on the aromatherapy benefits of essential oils. I hand-pour each candle in small batches using sustainable, vegan, cruelty-free ingredients. I aim to be as environmentally friendly as possible and all of my postal packaging is recyclable.
It’s been so fun (and challenging) learning this new craft and creating my first business. I’ve got a range of scents in store that I can’t wait to share with you!
