I am a printmaker based in North Bedfordshire, working from my small home studio where I create hand-printed works inspired by the natural world around me.
My background is rooted in art and design, having studied both product design and decorative arts, and this continues to influence the way I approach my work — with an interest in shape, pattern, composition and the relationship between image and surface.
My love of British wildlife, folklore, gardening and the changing seasons is at the heart of my work. I’m particularly drawn to the familiar birds, plants and small details that can so easily go unnoticed — a garden visitor, the shape of a leaf, seed heads in winter, or the quiet changes that come with each season.
I also use my own wildlife and garden photography as a starting point for some of my prints.
I work across cyanotype, collagraph, gel plate and linocut, often combining techniques and experimenting with texture, pattern and the effects of light. Much of the pleasure for me is in the process itself — creating mixed media art through carving, inking, pressing and printing seeing how an image develops on paper.
My prints are made by hand in small batches, rather than being digitally reproduced. This means that each impression has its own subtle character and no two are ever quite the same.
I make pieces that I hope capture something of the quiet beauty and character of British wildlife and gardens, while also drawing on my love of British folklore and the stories, traditions and sense of mystery woven into our landscape — little fragments of the natural world to keep, display or share.
