Since being a small child, I’ve always been creative and loved trying out different crafts; being able to take time to sit and create something from scratch, or up-cycle an object that has seen better days is always very rewarding.
Art was one of the subjects I chose to study at high school, but I went on to study music at college, and then followed a career in primary education, so art and craft projects helped me unwind in my downtime; I’m a big believer in crafting being good for the soul and the positive impact creative activities have on our mental health and well-being.
My little craft business has evolved over the last two years; a combination of early retirement and national lockdowns meant that I had a lot of time to pursue my interests!
Initially making things for home, and small gifts for family and friends, when I shared photos of my crafts on social media, people began asking if they could buy my products. I started selling my products online, through social media, and then seized the opportunity to sell them in a local craft collective too.
I would describe myself as a ‘serial crafter’; no two days in my workshop are ever the same! I like to try out different crafts, using a variety of techniques and materials, producing what I’d describe as an eclectic range of quite often unique, handmade gifts and keepsakes. I particularly love decoupage, especially when I’m combining paint with paper and foil leaf to create different effects on wooden shapes, miniature drawers and trinket boxes (I’ve up-cycled a few large pieces of furniture in this way too!).
When I’m not busy crafting, I enjoy reading and music; I play the piano (perhaps not as much as I should!) and I play cornet in a brass band.
