I am a creative person, whether it be drawing, painting, photography, gardening, film making, writing, knitting or building sandcastles. Every since I was a small child I have found pure joy in making things. I am fascinated by and marvel at the colours and patterns in the natural world. I have studied both fine art and film making though I mainly have earnt my living through graphic design. I would describe my work as magical realism and my in-depth research for each painting covers folklore, myths and traditions throughout the west country as well as local flora and fauna.
Some projects take years to bring to fruition...such as a floral alphabet, which took 9 months to draw...while the zodiac series is still ongoing! But others can be inspired by a random moment on a walk with my dog (a terrier cross who likes to go off-piste), an image in a newspaper, events such as a county show or reading about a myth or fairy tale.
The west country is stepped in mystic stories and ancient monuments such as Glastonbury Tor, ley lines, Iron Age forts and a rich landscape. My next big project will be embracing the world of Tarot which is as relevant to today as ever and provides a complex seam of inspiration for my artwork.
