Textile Storyteller

I am a mixed media textile artist based in Southsea, with a passion for fabric books and using textiles to tell stories.

My background is a combination of art and design practices - I studied Illustration at Kingston University before becoming a secondary school textiles teacher. I combine the two disciplines to create fabric artwork with an illustrative quality and narrative. For example I often use song lyrics and quotations as starting points, and text features in most of my artwork.

Whilst studying illustration I specialised in creating whimsical collages from sketches and paper ephemera and I bring the same techniques to textiles, layering fabrics, stitch and embellishments to create mixed-media mini-quilts and fabric books.

I have also created a new craft: Stitchbooking which fuses scrapbooking with textile crafts. I make and sell blank fabric Stitchbooks that can be stitched into to create personalised family heirlooms using family photos.
