I am a Cornwall based designer who specialises in the complex form of silk screen printing known as devoré or ‘burn-out’ printing, a process that ‘eats away’ the design on silk/viscose velvets and satins, rather than printing it in colour. After processing the printed scarf by burning out the design, I then dye and finish it by hand. I have been making my Limited Edition scarves under my design label ‘Solstice Moon’ since 2001, selling at quality design/craft fairs around the south-west, selected galleries, locally, and from my studio. In 2018, I introduced a range of eco-printed silk scarves, calico bags and framed eco prints & collages using natural materials from the garden and surrounding countryside. Before re-locating to Cornwall in 2000, I worked extensively as a designer in the fashion industry and as a lecturer in fashion & textiles in Further Education.
I am inspired by the landscape where I live, Celtic design and ancient indigenous art forms. I also produces prints, original paintings, mixed media artwork and greetings cards. The above photo was taken during a Cornwall Open Studios week, held each year in late May, and shows a display of work in one corner of the studio.
