Mandala and Zentangle Style Art
I've been a Graphic Designer since 1993, working in big Design and marketing agencies. I love that work, it's exciting, challenging and fulfilling but just sometimes I feel like I just want to do some good old colouring-in!
I'm also drawn to black and white line drawings with an urge to colour them in and when the adult colouring books started flooding the shops I just couldn't get enough! Then the designer in me kicked in and said 'why don't you create your own drawings to colour?'
At the same time I started using Instagram more for inspiration rather than just social and I discovered a whole world of artists. I was particularly inspired by the mandala artists and thought that I'd have a go at that. I put my own spin on my designs, preferring to work in metallic ink and keeping the colours simple and contemporary.
I then started getting family and friends asking me to do paintings for their daughter or for a specific occasion and realised that I might be on to something here! I could do these wonderful pieces of art for more people than my own family and friends and offer a wider audience the chance to own or gift beautiful and individual pieces.
My Shop name 'Side of the Hill' comes from my husband's family name of 'Fecitt'. It could be based on the Latin word FECIT which means I/he made it', but they believe it's more likely that it's an old Lancashire word meaning 'Colours on the Side of the Hill' !
