About Lynn Fisher Canal Art

Lynn Fisher Canal Art

Bold, bright, beautiful upcycling

I've always lived close to the canal network and love the vibrant art on narrowboats. A couple of years ago, a friend presented me with a couple of horseshoes he'd found with his metal detector and asked if I could paint them in a canal art style. So I learned some techniques and fell in love with them. Since then, I've developed my own style, which is looser than a lot of canal art and also incorporates other influences, such as wax print designs and flowers.

My family call this process "Rosie and Jimming", and it's a brilliant way to liven up old objects like horseshoes, jugs, tins, vases and slates, turning them into pretty, decorative and often useful objects again. Most of the items I paint are used , so a lot of these pieces are one-offs.
