About Penarth Ceramics

Penarth Ceramics

I make quirky, fun, hand made Ceramics for the home, wonky stripey cup shown

I started making Pottery when I was 9 years old. My father dug a "compost pit" in our garden at the time and showed me the red clay, which was coming out in chunks. He said, "you can make pots from this, it's called clay" and so I prospected for the clay all over my home town of Barry (Gavin and Stacy fame) in South Wales. I first began making rudimentary pots, and later in my teen years went to a Pottery class at my local youth Club. In my 20's I started to produce outlandish quirky clay models and eventually taught myself Ceramics and Pottery making, read books and practised for 5 years, no TV no socialising etc. I opened up a Pottery workshop for a church run Care farm where I used clay and Ceramics to inspire young people to engage in activity as that was their block and I helped them also by being a listening ear as they were lost and confused. I also ran classes for all, so people from all walks of life and trained Police officers on how to deal with troubled youngsters through the medium of clay. with and without disabilities. Childens pottery groups and parties was also very new then at the time and I went out to venues to do them.
I am now free to get creative and make whatever quirky fun ideas come to mind. The more unusual, the better for me personally, as there are plenty of people making "normal and conventional Ceramics. I took on 3 Cats from the farm where I worked as they were dumped there. They all passed one by one so currently I have no Cats. I do feed the birds these days so a cat wouldn't be compatible option.
