LUNA LAPIS specialises in sourcing ethical and sustainable crystals, something we call 'conscious crystals', and turns them into beautiful pieces of jewellery. It was founded by Lauren in 2017 from her home studio in Northern Ireland.
Hi, My name is Lauren and I started LUNA LAPIS as a passion project to fulfil a creative interest in crystals and their properties. Fast forward 3 years to 2020 and LUNA LAPIS had grown from passion project to a small business! LUNA LAPIS is Latin for Moon Stone, and was named after my beautiful cat Luna!
The main concept behind my jewellery collection is ‘minimal with meaning’. By keeping my designs minimal, and using demi-fine materials, this allows the beauty of the crystal to catch your eye and fully shine on it's own.
Some people are drawn to crystals simply for their unique, natural beauty and variety of colours, and for some they may be seeking the properties and meanings associated with each crystal such as birthstones, love, luck, grounding, protection, for meditation, or the energies or healing properties associated with each crystal. Whatever the reason, these beautiful crystals are sure to be cherished!
What are Ethical Crystals?
When researching crystals a few years ago I was surprised to learn that not all crystals are ethical or sustainable - in fact, the majority are not! This is because there are currently no ethical trading standards for crystals, gemstones, or minerals.
Ethical crystals are those which meet higher standards for miners and the environment, and are therefore usually more expensive than non-ethical crystals. Think of them similar to other 'fair-trade' items. Ethical crystals are often mined by small family-run businesses or communities, rather than by large corporations. They often mine in small batches and therefore have a much smaller environmental impact. By purchasing ethical crystals, you are supporting these small communities.
I then made it my mission to source ethical and sustainable crystals and I am proud to only use ethical crystals in collections for LUNA LAPIS.
