About La Vie ZoEm Jewellery

La Vie ZoEm Jewellery

Handmaking precious metal jewellery from my little workshop in Lancashire - usually whilst drinking tea and singing really loudly!

Hello, I am Zoe and I am the person behind La Vie ZoEm Jewellery.

I started making jewellery about 15 years ago as a hobby to help me unwind from my job as a teacher. You'd be surprised just how therapeutic hammering metal really can be!

As my skills progressed, friends and family began asking me to make them pieces and my business plan was born. It took a while for me to build up the courage to leave a steady and reliable job as a Head Teacher but in the end my heart was in making jewellery and so last year I took the plunge and started La Vie ZoEm Jewellery.

The name La Vie ZoEm, although it looks like a play on my name: Zoe Emmett, is in fact something that me and my best friend in the whole wide world came up with when we were living together in Brighton and planning to take the world by storm. We dreamt of setting up a music venue where my friend Emily would sing and I would host and so the name La Vie ZoEm was coined. We never did set up the music venue so she gave me her blessing to name my business the same name.

I work largely with silver but I absolutely love to work with gold. I design everything from the kitchen table and then make them in my little workshop that my husband James built for me. I do a lot of commission work but I also like to sell pieces that I have designed and made for no other reason than I love the process and I am often inspired by nature and history (the subject I taught for 20 years). I tend not to make the same design twice so much of my work is entirely unique which I think makes it even more special.

A lot of my work is commission based and this is something that I absolutely love doing, taking a design from ideas through to a completed piece is such an honour. I particularly enjoy taking old, unworn jewellery, melting it down and making it into something new and shiny and designed around the individual. Quite often the unworn jewellery is of sentimental value, having been handed down or inherited, to be able to transform such pieces into pieces that still have the sentimental value but are now worn is a fantastic thing to be able to do.

My dog Holly usually keeps me company in the workshop and, luckily, she seems immune to my loud and enthusiastic singing which I am sure my neighbours try to drown out on a daily basis. I enjoy what I do and I hope you can see that within my work, I strive for near perfection but my pieces are handmade and bear the markings of handmade products which gives them charm.

If you have any questions please just drop me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Have a lovely day
