About Joanne Harvey Designs

Joanne Harvey Designs

A touch of glass from a Yorkshire artist.

I have the privilege of working in the most beautiful county in England and using Yorkshire as my inspiration...although I could be ever so slightly biased. From an early age I was encouraged to travel, and have visited quite a bit of Britain, but have always returned to Yorkshire and this is the county which feels most like `home`.

I have been a practicing artist since 1994, following 4 years working with several ceramic, textiles and fine artists at NRC Scarborough and Leeds university during my teacher training. I was lucky enough to work with Mal Magson for 3 of those years, studying ceramics and as an off shoot of that, glass painting and stained glass.

After 22 years as a full time art teacher I have recently set up my own little studio and work part-time so I can follow my passion. I work with a small kiln and fused glass pieces to create textural landscapes based on my experiences of Yorkshire. Each piece is hand made through layering clear glass and coloured frits, then fired in the kiln several times to achieve the textured finish I desire.

I design and create mini landscape jewellery, small landacape glass paintings and have recently started experimenting with porcelain and earthenware clay. Each piece is handmade and original.
I am constantly inspired by the county I live in, my emotional experiences of the landscape and bright, bold colour.

I would like to thank all those I have worked with in the past and those who will inspire me in the future. My friends, family and customers for their encouragement and positive thoughts. I`d also like to thank my 2 constant companions...My husband for his patience and for allowing me the space and time to fulfill my passion (and the occasional chaos which comes from being married to someone with such creative mind) and Elvis the dog for keeping me company while I work.
