Ever since I was a small child I loved making things. I'd draw, sew and knit. In my teens I studied art and craft, design and technology at high school. I'd craft items from wood and after my dad bought me an SLR camera, I'd be found behind the lens. Nature was my preferred subject.
When I left school I went into a creative profession - Floristry. Working with natural materials, blending colours, forms, textures and patterns was something I loved. I'd draw inspiration from the occasion, flowers, materials and containers in front of me, the different design styles, colour palettes of the time and seasons. With floristry came my passion for gardening and nature as a whole. Beauty and inspiration is easy to find in not only windswept moorland but also looking closely at a single feather, a glass marble or a gravelled path. How light reflexes on surfaces, the textures and colours draws you in.
Today I create in a similar way as when I was a florist. I look at the wools and other materials in front of me to see if they evoke a memory or moment in time to inspire my design. Sometimes I pick a selection of materials and see where they take my design.
