Frankly Frances is all about beautiful textiles and yarns. I have an enormous fabric and yarn stash, which includes many vintage fabrics, lace and buttons, many from my Mother. Friends have given me other pieces. I love to repurpose textiles; a tweed skirt into a shoulder bag, with leather pockets made from leather waste off-cuts; a lambswool sweater, felted and used to make a clutch bag, decorated with beading or mother of pearl buttons or vintage ones; a length of wool tweed suiting made into e-reader sleeves; tweed and leather scraps made into corsage brooches.
I seem to have sewn all my life, and when the opportunity came to start my own craft business, I embraced the wonderful world of craftspeople.I sell in Sheffield Museums at their annual Handmade for Christmas gallery, and sell at local craft markets too.I also have a small alterations and repairs business.
Designing and sewing and knitting in my workroom is one of my happy places and over the years my one constant inspiration has been Vivienne Westwood. From when she burst onto the scene when I was a student to the present day, her designs have always filled me with joy. And if only I could design knitwear like Sarah Hatton or Martin Storey and have an eye for colour like Kaffe Fassett or Zandra Rhodes.
All my designs are made by me, with a close attention to detail, made with love, from luxury textiles and I hope you enjoy wearing them.
