About Follow the Thread

Follow the Thread

Handmade bags, textile jewellery, decorations and children's appliquéd aprons and t-shrts

‘Follow the Thread’ is my side project - mostly one-of-a-kind items I make from textile remnants, making useful & beautiful things from fabric that might otherwise have been thrown away. Currently I'm really enjoying making retro style beach bags using towelling cloth remnants given to me by a friend. Other pieces in the FOLLOW THE THREAD shop will include things from my first Folksy shop (archived for a few years) eg. fun tote bags, appliqué/embroidered children's aprons and Christmas decorations.

I am a clothing/accessories designer & maker - my main Folksy shop is IN THE MAKING - APRONS, highly specialised workwear for craftspeople. I was a featured Folksy Maker in September 2019!

Mindful of the environmental impact of textile waste I cut layouts very economically minimising waste and saving any leftover remnants to make something else. All packaging is a combination of recycled/recyclable/compostable paper, boxes, tape and twine.

LISA BENNETT - Following art college I worked in the music industry for 10 years before resuming design & illustration work, mainly appliqué/embroidery/print for childrenswear, but also prop making and craft tutorials/workshops - I began IN THE MAKING - APRONS 8 years ago. I have a BA Degree in Fashion Design from Kingston University and later studied Experimental Illustration professional development course at UAL (London College of Communication).
