Hi, I'm Alexia, the artist behind Fae & Flame Creatures.
Growing up in Romania, folklore never felt like old stories, it felt real. Dragons, forest spirits and magical creatures lived just beyond the edge of sight, and I spent my childhood imagining what it would be like to meet them. Even today, that sense of wonder is at the heart of everything I create.
From my little studio in Bristol, I hand-sculpt one of a kind mythical creatures inspired by folklore from around the world. Some become wearable companions, others become tiny desk friends, bookmarks or collectible creatures waiting to be adopted into a new home.
Each creature is sculpted by hand from polymer clay, painted with care and finished with its own personality. No two are ever exactly the same.
Alongside my sculptures, I also create illustrations, poetry and participatory art projects inspired by folklore. Through my ongoing project, The Living Bestiary, I interview people about their favourite mythical creatures and transform their stories into original sculptures, exploring how folklore continues to evolve through the people who tell it.
My hope is that every creature brings a little comfort, curiosity and magic into someone's everyday life, and perhaps reminds us that folklore isn't something left behind in old books. It's something we continue to carry with us.
