Evie and the woolpiglet

Silver jewellery made from found treasure

Thank you for having a look at my shop! I am Doris, the maker behind all the weird and wonderful jewellery creations you find here. I live in an old cottage dating back to the 18th century in a rural part of East Sussex, UK. “Evie & the woolpiglet” began taking shape when I found lots of beautiful old pottery shards (aka sherds) in my garden. (I am still searching for the actual midden though). I wanted to turn these pottery shards - mainly 19th century transferware - in something beautiful again. Since my childhood I have been an avid crocheter, so I started to make little crochet sleeves for the pottery shards from fine cotton thread as a setting. It is a very satisfying process to make these little covers for all the broken edges of the broken shards. This way a shard could be worn as a pendant on a sterling silver chain and show its beauty again. Several people suggested to me opening an online shop: I finally did in November 2020. I love all things old and beautiful, especially if it is a found treasure, therefore I added seaglass to my jewellery collection. You might also see other found treasures used as props in my photos. Due to my love for crochet (that is the woolpiglet in the name) I also have some jewellery available that is only using crochet. I further used this technique to crochet settings for pottery shards and seaglass from silver wire.
I am trying hard to run this business as ecofriendly as possible. In effect I am upcycling rubbish and that makes me think quite a bit about rubbish. I am trying to create as little waste as possible myself. Therefore, all packaging is recyclable and I am using eco-silver wherever possible.
