About At the beading station

At the beading station

a small history of me and beading

My name is chloe Bishop I'm 33 years old and I live in Southampton

As a child and an adult I've struggled with hip dysplasia and scoliosis and have had multiple surgeries, including the Harrington rods to fuse my spine, Despite this I was able to lead a very independent life as an adult and when I left school I became a care giver to others. Being a care nurse didnt leave much time for crafting. However the job took a toll on my body, and in 2013 I need more surgery on my back forcing me to give up work the manual handling in a job like care was just to much for me. I suddenly went from 60 hours a week job to 0 and I found my self totally idle. One day A fellow nurse at a party showed me her beading stash and showed me how to start with the basics, and make a simple pair of earrings. Well I was fascinated how something that seems so complicated was really quite simple. Plus not to mention the fun you get from buying all the beads to make your peices. It hasn't been easy, I've stayed of the path of jewellery and tried other crafts but I just wasnt interested. In the end I realised I either needed to specialise In a particular category of jewellery making and stick with it as it can become a very expensive hobby. I'm fascinated with beading and the hundreds of different stitches you have to lean, and then you have to lean them all over again when you use different shaped beads. I've completely self taught my self, with the aid of you tube and top designers online offering free tutorials and support. Its such a fun indoor hobby that will take me years to learn, I now have emersed my self in the beading world making long time friends and teachers, and discovering, bead shows, bead retreats and holidays even. But its taken over 7 years just to get to an intermediate level of design and I'm still forever devoting time into to devolving my skils. It's taken me years to find the right network of trustworthy suppliers which enables me to ensure your product you purchase lasts, and is sturdy and strong and stands the test of time.

In recent years I've had yet more surgery on my hip in the form of a hip replacement and found my self stuck indoors again with little to do. This is perfect time to hone my skills and learn some brilliantly difficult stitches and have some fun with my craft. And dure in the covid 19 lock down of march 2020 I found my self grateful of my hobby again as it keeps me occupied indoors and is fantastic for my mental health. I'm always forever learning and improving my techniques. I hope to start teaching and offering kits in the future so you can bead to. Thanks for taking the time to read my story many thanks chloe.
