“bn̈e” is a design studio and workshop creating authentic plywood furniture. A brand was found by Brazilian and Lithuanian “ex-architects” couple Bruno Conti and Eva Bozyte who shifted their interests towards a smaller scale design discipline. Sharing a common background and interest towards minimalist designs we both started to experiment and make our first prototypes in a small workshop space in North East London. The style and material choices of our products are highly influenced by modern mid-century, Scandinavian and 60s´ designs adding unique details of our individual character.
We believe that responsible design should play a big role in consumer choices in this day and age, hence we always encourage an approach to “buy less, choose well, make it last”. "Fast fashion" trends are not followed in our studio so we release products when we know we designed something useful, unique and built to last. We strive to create original products that will work with your current interior style and the next one.
All the furniture is designed and handcrafted from scratch by us. It is the designer's responsibility to reduce an ecological footprint on the environment through design choices and making process. Therefore, birch plywood became our core working material which provided flexibility to implement various ideas into sustainable and affordable handmade products. It is a natural building material and ultimate renewable wood resource with a long lifespan and a possibility to be recycled. Our finishes are kept as natural as possible - all the furniture is coated with environmentally friendly plant-based hard waxes and oils, which are durable, non-toxic and easy to maintain.
Our items are produced made-to-order what means we never manufacture unnecessary stock and start making a product once it is bought by a customer. It lets us lower material and energy consumption, storage space and gives you an opportunity to customise a chosen product to the centimetre.
Being a small business we always choose to work with local suppliers and collaborate with fellow creatives from the nearby communities. We keep a strong principle to create affordable, functional and built to last pieces which could promote a positive change in people’s home.
