Hi, I'm Fi and I live in Oxfordshire with my amazing husband and our crazy 6 year old rescue golden retriever, Winston.
I design and make beaded, fine silver and sterling silver jewellery in my home, a hobby that I started over 20 years ago, that has turned into my passion! I started making beaded jewellery with my sister in my hometown, Edinburgh, but stopped for a while when life (and my husband who was a serving soldier at the time) brought me down to Oxfordshire. After moving down here, I started taking classes in Silver Clay and traditional silversmithing, and now use those techniques as well as wire wrapping and beading to create individual pieces of jewellery. I find the process of designing and creating beautiful things very therapeutic and rewarding. Having been diagnosed with ADHD a few years ago, my jewellery making has definitely become my happy place, where I feel the most free and relaxed!
In my beaded pieces, I use a mix of semi-precious stones, crystals (acrylic and Swarovski), fresh water pearls, glass, acrylic and metal beads with different types of wire. I work with 925 sterling silver, silver plated, gold plated, antique brass plated and copper wires, beading wire, cord and ribbon, although sterling silver is always my preferred medium.
I use silver clay to create fine 99.9 grade silver jewellery using a mixture of moulds, cutters and shaping/texturing techniques. The process involves drying the clay once shaped to remove the water, then firing to leave just the 99.9 grade fine silver pieces. I then use traditional silversmithing techniques to finish the pieces to a high shine, or occasionally to give an antique look to the silver. Even using moulds, there will always be slight differences to the pieces. These little differences make the items unique and a trait of being handmade, and something I absolutely love about this process!
I love working with semi-precious stones and crystals, both for their beauty and for their meanings. They are believed to have unique healing properties and symbolism, which I think makes each piece feel just that bit more magical!
Inspiration wise, where do I draw from.. gosh, from everywhere and everything!! I'm not drawn to one particular "theme". That's one of the joys of having an ADHD brain - I never know where it's going to lead me next!!
If you are looking for something in particular, for a wedding, birthday or just because you deserve it (you really do!), then get in touch - I'd love to see if I can help create something bespoke for you.
